Case Study
High-Voltage Reed Relay for Insulation Testing in Compact ATE Systems
A leading manufacturer of electrical test equipment needed a compact relay capable of withstanding extremely high voltages to test the insulation characteristics of electrical components. The challenge? Fit a relay with 5 kV AC (7 kV peak) one-minute withstand voltage into a 30 mm-long package, without compromising performance or usability.
Challenge:
- Design a relay that exceeds the electrical specifications of the components being tested.
- Maintain compact size for integration into space-constrained automated test equipment (ATE).
- Ensure no partial discharge during operation, which could compromise test accuracy.
Solution:
Standex Detect engineered a custom reed relay with two reed switches internally connected in series—a configuration not offered by any other supplier.
